Zopun Artem wins Main Event at India Poker Championship
After an exciting 3 days of play, it was Zopunnyan Artem from Russia who took down the INR 25,000 Big Game (Main Event) at the March edition of the India Poker Championship in Goa. Along with the IPC Winner's Medallion, Artem took home a sum of INR 430,000 for his efforts.
It's been a profitable trip for the native of Yekaterinburg, in Central Russia who came down in mid-January to Goa for a vacation... of sorts. When PokerNews India caught up with Zopun Artem after his win, he mentioned that this was exclusively "a casino and poker trip" for him. Along with his friend Sergey Federov, Artem was exploring the poker scene in this country and with a win at the IPC Main Event, he will certainly end his monthly trip on a very profitable note.
The final hand of the 25k Big Game saw a limp from Indian pro Jasven Saigal and Zopun Artem preflop to see . Saigal makes it 16000 and a flatcall from Artem. The turn has Saigal firing out 35000 on which Artem moved all-in. Saigal was the one at risk as Artem had him covered.
Zopun Artem shows for turned fullhouse whilst Jasven Saigal had for trip Queens on the flop. Saigal was drawing dead even before the river opened up and that was it as Zopun Artem became the Big Game champion at the India Poker Championship.
