Ashish Goel takes down Main Event at IPS 17
Chapter 17 of the India Poker Series (IPS) took place last weekend from 20-23 September onboard Casino Royale. This time's IPS was an all freezeout affair although there were plenty of player requests to convert the smaller buy-in events into re-buys or re-entry formats.
20 Sep - Thursday Thunder - 5K Freezeout
Gundeep Chahal triumphed a field of 38 entries to score a payday of INR 65000. Here's a listing of the Top 5 finishers who made the money in this event:-
21 Sep - Friday Fusion - 10K Double Chance Freezeout
The Double Chance event had 26 entries and YJ Kim seems to have take a shine to this innovation by the IPS which he won, going one better over his runner-up finish in the previous day's tournament. He defeated Goa's Michael DSouza in headsup
22 Sep - Saturday Showdown - 20K Freezeout (Main Event)
The highlight of the IPS weekend was their INR 20,000 Main Event which drew 32 entries and it was Ashish Goel who emerged victorious to win the title and first place prize of INR 2,19,000.
|2nd||Roie Ben Zion||1,44,000|
23 Sep - Super Sunday - 5K Freezeout
The close out event of the weekend on Sunday night saw 20 entries for the 5k Freezeout and Navin T was the winner of Super Sunday.
|3rd||Roie Ben Zion||15,000|
At the conclusion of Chapter 17, the points table for the IPS POY still has Vineet Bailur sitting on top of the table with none other than IPS Director Bharat Agarwalla on his heels. There is a fair gap between the two players but Agarwalla does have an outside chance of toppling Bailur on the leaderboard if he puts in good performances in the final chapter of the year for the IPS. Speaking of which, that final year-ending Chapter 18 will take place at the same venue from 21-25 November culminating with the Champion of Champions event with a buy-in of INR 30,000.
The upcoming schedule of Chapter 18 can be found on the IPS website.
