The new season of the India Poker Championship will kick off on Wednesday, Jan 23, 2013, at Casino Royale, Goa. While the IPC team has not released the schedule of events, they have confirmed that the IPC will do a 5 day mega event from 23-27 January which will see the IPC Main Event as the featured tournament. The winner of this event will have the honour of being crowned India Poker Champion for the year 2013.
Speaking of the Main Event, it will be held over two consecutive days with Day 1 taking place on 26 January, India's Republic Day and the final table will be played down to the winner on Sunday, 27 January. The schedule is expected to have at least 3 side events and 1 mega satellite. The January event will also see the reboot of the India Player of the Year (IPOY) leaderboard where the most consistent players can earn points and the eventual IPOY winner will be awarded a sponsorship deal from the IPC.
It has been quiet few months for the India Poker Championship (IPC) but according to IPC Director, Peter Abraham, this first event of their new calendar is just the start. "We did far lesser events in 2012 than we intended because of some pretty cramped scheduling. However following our discussions with Casino Royale in the recent weeks, we are glad to announce that the IPC now has a permanent home in Goa at Casino Royale and we will be doing tournaments exclusively at this venue in 2013."
Another big announcement made recently was the addition of two more key members onto the IPC team in Jasven Saigal and Rajeev Kanjani. These two well-known players on the Indian poker circuit were also behind the Aces Unlimited tournament brand and their addition to the team adds more muscle to the IPC entity. "Jasven and I are delighted to partner with Pete and Sameer (Rattonsey) in the IPC as we've already executed a successful event together in the Ultimate Poker Challenge. Going ahead we expect to do bigger and better things to promote poker in India", said Kanjani.
According to Abraham, this first IPC event of 2013 has a lot of attractions including guarantees on all tournaments, exciting promotions during the event and a whole lot more. "The idea is to start the new year with a bang since we've been away for a while. Players have always liked playing IPC events and as always, our aim will be to keep improving player experience along with interesting innovations. "
The IPC team expects to release further details in the coming weeks and PokerNews India will bring you the schedule of events in its entirety when it becomes available. Do remember to follow all the action from the IPC on our live reporting blog from 23-27 January.
