The Most Exciting Season Of Match Indian Poker League Crowns Pune Kings As Winners
Raj Kundra led Viaan Industries recently hosted the 3rd edition of Match Indian Poker League in association with the International Federation of Match Poker (IFMP). What initially began as a vision to establish poker as a sport has now become reality, all thanks to MatchIPL. Season 3 of PokerRaj MatchIPL was a raging success, with 9 teams from across the country competing against each other over two days.
The two-day event had an extravagant opening ceremony with a number of Bollywood personalities not just making their presence felt but also putting out a stellar performance. Celebrities like R.Madhavan, Shilpa Shetty Kundra, Karishma Tanna, Shamita Shetty, Sanjeeda Sheikh and Manjeet Singh Ral added to the allure of MatchIPL Season 3.
The day began with a brief introduction of the event to all the teams by Raj Kundra - President of Match Indian Poker League and Varun Goenka - President of Indian Match Hold’em Sport Confederation. Match Poker as a format has 6 members in one team competing against players of different teams. The team to collect the most number of points at the end of the session moves up the Leaderboard. Day 1 of PokerRaj MatchIPL had 4 sessions of 36 hands each, whereas Day 2 had 2 sessions of 36 hands after which the bottom 3 teams were eliminated. Then, 2 sessions of 48 hands were played amongst the top 6 teams.
Strategy, skill and a whole lot of teamwork defined the two-day MatchIPL event. Haryana Hawks, the defending champs performed consistently until the last two sessions, where they saw a drop in their total points. This decline could be credited to the exceptional performance of two teams; Mumbai All Stars and Pune Kings! The rivalry between the two neighboring city teams was evident. The owners engaged in a bit of a pre-session battle with MTV host Gaelyn and even exchanged a few sporting quips and some banter.
The final session of PokerRaj MatchIPL was played completely in the dark, where no Live Leaderboard was displayed to any of the owners or players. You could literally feel the suspense and anticipation in the air. Once the entire session was completed, all owners and players assembled near the stage for the prize distribution and for the grand revelation of this season's winners.
Keeping the excitement alive, Mr.Raj Kundra began with announcing the 6th placed team and 5th placed teams, Jaipur Jewels and defending champs Haryana Hawks. From silence in the air, there was a sudden cheer of exhilaration from the top 4 teams. Delhi Aces were awarded the 4th place and one of the most consistent teams - Bangalore Royals was awarded the 3rd place.
The owners of the top two teams were then called on to the stage along with Patrick Nally - President of the International Federation of Match Poker (IFMP) who awarded a grand prize of INR 1.35 Crores to the owner of Pune Kings! Within seconds of announcing the winners, the entire Pune Team was on-stage celebrating their glorious victory. Considered underdogs, Pune Kings proved their mettle and delivered a skillful performance at Season 3 of PokerRaj MatchIPL.
Mumbai All Stars who were the runners-up, missed the top spot by just 7 points. A total prize amount of INR 90 Lakhs was awarded to them, while the 3rd placed team won INR 60 Lakhs and the 4th placed team took home INR 50 Lakhs.
With this, the 3rd Season of PokerRaj MatchIPL drew to its end. An eventful two-days that saw great team effort and some amazing gameplay by all teams.
Stick around because Season 4 of Match Indian Poker League promises to be bigger and better. #PokerIsASport
