Day 2 of the €10,000 High Roller at EPT Prague is complete, and the overnight chip leader is Sorel Mizzi, who bagged 1.192 million. The only other player with a million chips is Philippe Ktorza (1.094 million).

Marvin Rettenmaier started Day 2 of the €10,000 High Roller with a bang, doubling through Rudolf Babayan. There was a raise and a call before Rettenmaier three-bet out of the big blind, and Babayan, the original raiser, moved all in. Rettenmaier quickly called with {9-Spades}{9-Hearts}, and Babayan showed {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}. The board ran out {j-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{8-Hearts}{6-Spades}{2-Diamonds}, and Rettenmaier doubled to more than average.

The next player to receive a massive double up was Mizzi. He played a hand with Anatoly Gurtovoy, in which Gurtovoy six-bet preflop with {q-Hearts}{10-Hearts}. Mizzi just called with ace-king, and got the remainder of his stack in the middle on a seven-high flop. Gurtovoy called, the ace-king held, and Mizzi doubled.

Gurtovoy then busted a few hands later, when he jammed for 115,900 on a flop of {8-Spades}{6-Spades}{9-Clubs}. Andrey Gully, who had led out for 32,200, tank-called with {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}. Gurtovoy tabled {a-Spades}{5-Spades}. The turn and river bricked {9-Diamonds}, {7-Diamonds} respectively, and Gurtovoy was eliminated.

Play slowed considerably as we neared the money bubble, but Olivier Busquet eventually burst it. After doubling Aubin Cazals with a dominating hand preflop – Cazals spiked a straight on the river – Busquet shoved from the small blind. Rettenmaier looked him up with {k-Clubs}{9-Hearts}, which was ahead of the {q-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} of Busquet. The board ran out {6-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}, and Busquet was eliminated.

Katchalov was the first player to bust in the money, and it was an absolute cooler. Katchalov five-bet shoved with {q-Spades}{q-Hearts} only to be called by the {k-Clubs}{k-Spades} of Mizzi. The board ran out {3-Spades}{9-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}, and Katchalov was eliminated in 12th place.

The next two players to bow out were Gurgen Melkonyan and Morten Klein, and suddenly we were at an unofficial final table. Most of the hands were quite slow, but on one of the final hands of the evening, Ktorza cold-four-bet shoved for 522,000 from the big blind. Mercier, the four-bettor, snap called with {a-Spades}{a-Clubs}, which crushed Ktorza’s {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}. The board ran out {k-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{k-Clubs}{7-Hearts}, and Mercier was crippled down to under 200,000 chips.

Mercier doubled in a subsequent hand, but still only bagged 444,000 chips.

Play will resume on Sunday at 12:00 CEST, and finish when a winner is crowned. Join the PokerNews Live Reporting Team then.

Mercier Puts Tournament Life On The Line

[user153638]

In the very next hand after having his aces cracked Jason Mercier put his tournament life on the line.

It happened when Marvin Rettenmaier opened for 42,000 from the hijack and Mercier shipped for 191,000 from the button. Both blinds got out of the way and Rettenmaier made the call.

Showdown
Mercier: {A-Hearts}{J-Hearts}
Rettenmaier: {A-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}

Mercier was well out in front and stayed there as the board ran out {9-Clubs}{K-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{7-Spades}.

Again Mercier took to Twitter:

Ktorza's Big Slick > Mercier's AA

[user153638]

In the very next hand after having called clock, Jason Mercier picked up aces and played a huge pot against Philippe Ktorza.

It began when Marvin Rettenmaier opened for 40,000 from the cutoff and Mercier three-bet to 113,000 from the small blind. Action was then on Ktorza in the big blind and he paused for a moment before announcing that he was all in for 522,000. Rettenmaier got out of the way and Mercier snap-called.

Showdown
Ktorza: {A-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}
Mercier: {A-Spades}{A-Clubs}

Mercier held rockets and was a huge favorite over Ktorza, who was up on his feet. The {K-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} flop gave Ktorza a pair of kings, but he'd need another to stay alive. Wouldn't you know it, the dealer burned and turned the {K-Clubs}.

Ktorza briefly celebrated while Mercier was clearly disgusted and frustrated. During this time the {7-Hearts} was put out on the river and Mercier immediately grabbed his phone and took to Twitter.

Clock!

[user101598] • Level 21: 10,000-20,000, 3,000 ante

Marvin Rettenmaier opened to 42,000 on the button, and Juha Helppi tanked for 20 seconds or so before three-betting to 110,000 from the small blind. Jason Mercier surrendered his big blind, and Rettenmaier tanked for a minute, then four-bet to 186,000.

Helppi then tanked for well over three minutes before Mercier called the clock. The tournament director began the countdown, and Helppi folded with just once second remaining.

Small One For Juha

[user153638]

Fabian Quoss min-raised to 40,000 under the gun and picked up one caller in the former of Finland's Juha Helppi in the hijack. Quoss proceeded to check-call a bet of 40,000 on the {7-Hearts}{6-Spades}{Q-Clubs} flop, and then both players checked the {5-Hearts} turn.

When the {4-Spades} appeared on the river, Quoss checked for a third time and Helppi took the opportunity to bet approximately 115,000, which was enough to take down the pot.
